www.quiltville.com is probably my favourite quilting site. I have two of Bonnie Hunter’s books. I love her Scrap User’s System and her Leaders and Enders Method. This I Spy uses 4.5 inch novelty print squares and lenghts of blue, orange and white fabric. Bonnie’s instructions are very clear and detailed; you can find them here.

Cathy's Yummy I Spy pathway

How cute is this quilt! It belongs to Cathy. It must be a big quilt, the squares are 6 inch size in the path and 3 x 6 on the borders. All the prints are food related. I like the way one colour flows into the next one. My quilts are usually pretty random when it comes to colour placement.

Food fabrics are lots of fun to collect and come in a great range of colours (but why are there more chilli fabrics than any other vegetable…?)

I Spy blocks with pink sashing

This is one of my own quilts. It’s very simple, just twenty-four different 6.5 inch squares and 2.5 inch sashing strips. I used about 8 fat quarters in pink tones. I don’t cut the sashing strips to match the centre square, I chain piece the squares onto the strip and cut and press afterwards. Much less measuring!

Jacqui's sewing machine themed quilt

This quilt caught my eye when I was cruising though cyberspace (as you do…) This is Jacqui’s quilt on her blog http://treadlequilts.blogspot.com.

All the fabrics in this quilt are sewing machine related, and Jacqui made the quilt on a Singer treadle! Each block is 6 inch finished with corner blocks and 1 inch sashing. You can read more about it here.

Do you collect themed prints? I have cat blocks (for my brother’s One Day quilt); music prints; chook prints (chickens to you non-Australian readers) and black and white squares.

I Spy a Triple Treat Quilt

I finished making this I Spy quilt in time for Jack’s 3rd birthday. It ended up very bright and busy – just like Jack! The blocks are made from 3 different sixed squares – 2.5 inch, 3.5 inch and 6.5 inch. The large squares, 15 in all, I chose carefully to reflect the things that Jack likes. The smallest squares are a mix of I Spy and tone on tone fabrics in red, yellow, orange, blue and green. I avoided purple and pink, this is definitely a quilt for a boy.

Featherweight in Action

I made Triple Treat on my Singer 1950s Featherweight. In fact, everything I’ve sewn in the last twelve months has been on this Singer. It runs like a charm. Because this Singer is so small I used a Quilt As You Go (QAYG) method to quilt the single bed size quilt. I enjoyed QAYG; it’s so nice to finish the top and find the whole quilt is done.
